Profile: Halle Berry
Born August 14, 1968 in Cleveland, Ohio, Halle is a star actress, a stunning model, and a celebrity entertainer. Halle was raised by her mother, Judith, a psychiatric nurse. Her abusive father left the family when Halle was four years old. This rough start to her life didn't deter her from excelling in whatever she did. While in high school, she was the editor of the school newspaper, member of the honor society, a varsity cheerleader, and prom queen. She easily won Miss Ohio, Miss Teen All-American, and in 1986, was first runner-up in the Miss USA pageant. She was the first African-American to represent the U.S. in the Miss World competition in London. In Cleveland, she attended Cuyahoga Community College, and for a few years she modeled professionally in Chicago. In 1989, she decided to try her hand at an acting career. Halle got her start in the TV series, "Living Dolls", but gained the public's attention with her graphic portrayal of a crack addict in Spike Lee's, "Jungle Fever". This established her solidly as a star actress and celebrity.
