Profile: Mena Suvari
Mena was born February 9, 1978, in New Port, Rhode Island. Mena is a very
well seasoned model and a star actress. Named after an Egyptian godmother,
Mena is the product of two health care professionals, a Psychiatrist and a
Registered Nurse. At the age of 12, Mena became involved with modeling while
living in South Carolina, with a small modeling agency. This exposure resulted
in a five year modeling stint with the Wilhelmina agency. Next stop, the west
coast, San Francisco, for a gig with Rice-a-Roni doing commericals. Mena dutifully
made the requisite television rounds, and graced the set of 'Boy Meets World',
then hit the halls of 'ER' and 'Chicago Hope'. Mena, now a sexy veteran celebrity
say's "I'm the coyote girl, that's what the boys called me". Behind
the sexual bravado, Mena noted that just "like everyone else in the film
industry, I'm someone who's trying to find herself". During the filming
of "Sugar", Mena met cinematographer Robert Brinkmann, who is a
decade and a half her senior. Perhaps, taking a cue from her parents, who
are 24 years apart in age, Mena married Brinkmann in March 2000. The union
was well concealed until a fan outside the Independent Spirit Awards cracked
the secret. In the film, " Loser", Mena can be seen doing what she
does best, portraying a pretty young thing mixed up with an older man. "It's
extremely surreal for me", Mena confessed to the Toronto Sun about her
fast-won success. "I have so much to learn. Sometimes, I think about
it and say, like, 'Why did this happen to me?' It's so mind-boggling."
