Profile: Tea Leoni

Tea was born Febuary 25, 1966, in New York City, New York. Tea is a leggy, sexy, movie and screen star. Influenced by her grandmother, a former Broadway actress, Tea became interested in acting as a child, but did not pursue her craft immediately. At the age of six, she had aspired to the lofty career ambition of becoming a tollbooth attendant on the George Washington Bridge. Tea made no attempt with acting during her high school years, which were divided between the uppity Brearley, an all-girl New York academy, and Putney School in Vermont. By the timeTea enrolled at Sarah Lawrence College to study anthropology and psychology, an acting career was the farthest thing from her mind. When she was 22, she dropped out of Sarah Lawrence and spent several months traveling to Italy, Japan, and St. Croix. She returning to the States and moved to Boston, where she planned to enroll at Harvard. While living in Boston, a friend dared her to show up for a casting call at a local mall, where a talent agency was screening young lovelies to star in producer Aaron Spelling's spin-off, "Angels 88". Never one to turn down a good dare, the would-be Harvard grad walked away from the mall with her first acting job. She relocated to Los Angeles, where "Angels 88" was scheduled to take place. Fortunately, or unfortunately, depending on how charitably you look at it, a writers' strike killed production on the show almost before it had begun. Little is it known, on how Jay Leno moved Tea into her career. The leggy blonde threw up every time she had to step in front of the cameras. Puking on stage was hardly the way to impress impatient directors. The cure was a guest appearance on the Tonight show. When host, Jay Leno, called out her name, Tea clung to a backstage railing so tightly that an assistant literally had to pry her fingers loose so that she could follow her cue. She then marched onto the stage, with great resolve in her mind, and as she put it to one interviewer, "It's never come up again". It might be said that "J" was instrumental in Tea's acting success. Tea made the most of the limited exposure, winning raves from critics for her uninhibited manner and her knack for screwball comedy.
